Lucky Lanterns is the seventh special event introduced to Rocket League. During the event, players could earn exclusive Lunar New Year-themed items. Lucky Lanterns first appeared in 2020, and it returned in 2021.
In 2020, the event started on January 20 and ended on February 17. During the event, players could earn Red Envelopes to buy Lunar New Year-themed items. The event was originally scheduled to end on February 10, 2020, but on February 7, 2020 Psyonix announced that it would be extended by a week and everyone who logged into Rocket League through February 21, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. PST (6:00 p.m. UTC) would be given 500 Red Envelopes.[1]
On February 11, 2021 the Lucky Lanterns event went live with new items and ended on March 1, 2021.[2] In 2021, there were no Red Envelopes and players simply completed special event challenges to unlock items (like other post-F2P events).

During the 2020 event, two goal explosions featured in the event trailer were available in the Item Shop for a limited time.
During the 2021 event, Lantern Lift will make a return along with a new Paper Dragon (Crimson) and two Free items.

Arena[]
Along with the event, a new arena called Forbidden Temple was also introduced. It stayed in the map rotation permanently. The Lucky Lanterns 2021 event included the Forbidden Temple (Day) variant.
